Delivery, Unloading, and Placement of Stone

Towboats

Luhr Bros., Inc. operates a fleet of 28 towboats ranging from 7200 H.P. to 460 H.P. Four of these towboats have greater than 6600 H.P. and are capable of delivering 30 barges of stone per trip to New Orleans with each tow having approximately 40,000 to 45,000 tons. A normal round trip from Tower Rock Stone Co. to New Orleans will require 20 calendar days, giving us the capability to deliver in excess of 2000 tons per calendar day to the New Orleans area. Three towboats with 3000-4000 H.P. are capable of delivering 12 barge tows and 16 barge tows respectively.

Barges

We presently have 244 flat deck and hopper barges in use with the capability of transporting at least 1300 tons of stone per barge.

Stone Placement Machinery

We have the following draglines, cranes, and hydraulic excavators on spud barges that are capable of direct stone placement, loading trucks, or stockpiling of stone on the riverbank:

Land Based Contracts

We have sufficient Caterpillar Dozers, Cat 400 End Dumps, Scrapers, and Hydraulic Excavators to fulfill any land based contract requirements.
